William Stranger designs and builds one of a kind pieces and limited production furniture. He is a member of the Woodworkers Guild of Southern California, the American Craft Council and the Furniture Society.
Most of the wood William uses comes from North America, much of it from the west coast. Trees from all over the world grow in Los Angeles and William supports urban salvage which makes use of wood that would otherwise be wasted as well as providing a unique resource for unusual and beautiful lumber. Other sources include rural salvage from the west coast and the north east; river and lake recovered logs; recycled construction timber; lumber from forests certified as well managed by the Forest Stewardship Council.
The portfolio shows furniture in several of the woods that are available. Please contact William to discuss materials for commissions or find out what is currently available.
All work is finished with Tried and True linseed oil finishes . These are non toxic plant based oils that contain no petroleum solvents or metal dryers. Several coats of oil are applied and then hand rubbed to produce a deep satin sheen which improves with age. Additional coats of oil should be applied periodically.
Please call for pricing on specific items or new designs.
Furniture can be delivered in the Los Angeles area. Shipping is available outside Southern California. To order from the portfolio, inquire about available pieces and upcoming shows or commission a project, please contact William at his workshop.
